The Office of Residential life has current open professional staff positions of Residential College/ Community Director available this year. These primary professional staff members are responsible for enhancing the quality of life for residential students through the development of programs and activities which promote learning and foster a strong sense of community. They are key members of the Residential Life team, and as such, also participate in departmental planning, evaluation, and administration. The Residential College and Community Directors are 12-month, full-time, live-in staff with significant opportunities to be involved in both departmental and University-wide committees and initiatives. Residential Colleges and Apartment Communities are each unique and different and has its own amenities and programs. Our residential communities include traditional Residential Colleges with first year students and upper-class students, all first year student areas, and all upper-class areas, including out University apartments both on and off campus.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The programmatic mission of Residential Living is to support the academic mission of the University within the residence hall setting. This is accomplished through academic, student development and community development programming.
The student development program is divided into the six dimensions of wellness: social, career, spiritual, physical, intellectual and emotional. Community development is promoted by encouraging residents to become active participants in responsible decision-making within their living environment.
The Residence Hall Director's primary responsibilities are the welfare and development of the students within the residence hall. To promote these, the Director functions as:
* Supervisor/Advisor
- select, train, supervise and evaluate Assistant to the Director for Administration (AD)
- select, train, supervise and evaluate Community Advisor staff (CA)
- supervise the Academic Resource Coordinator(s) (ARCs)
- coordinate the development of meaningful goals, programs and policies for the hall
- advise Hall Government and other student volunteer groups
* Educational Specialist
- support the academic mission of the university by helping establish Learning Communities in the residence halls (ARC Program and Freshman Interest Group Program)
- assist Academic Resource Coordinator(s) (ARCs) in the assessment of residents’ academic needs
- interact regularly with Faculty Mentor, and facilitate student/faculty interactions
- promote an environment conducive to academic success
- counsel students having personal, academic, lifestyle and career concerns when appropriate
* Community Development Specialist
- encourage residents' active participation in house governance
- encourage students to assume responsibility for decisions affecting their community
- communicate, explain and clarify campus and hall policies
- initiate appropriate student conduct action when necessary
- maintain a secure, satisfying physical environment
- promote an environment conducive to academic success
* Administrator
- direct overall operation of the residence hall
- monitor the hall budgets, monitor training, develop budget
- maintain regular communications or correspondence with administrative services, custodial and maintenance functions, food service, campus activities and protective services
- serve on committees/task forces
- provide reports, including four Quarterly Reports
Although the Hall Director's primary activities are focused on the hall itself, there is considerable emphasis on personal development. Each Hall Director will be involved in a collateral assignment (not to exceed eight hours per week) and departmental committee.

General Description: Under the direction of the Assistant Director for Residence Life, the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) serves as part of a dynamic residence life team and enacts a vision of enterprising innovation and initiative in student affairs work. The position demonstrates leadership abilities to help facilitate student success, involvement, multicultural awareness and personal growth. The RLC is responsible for one or more residential communities with populations of approximately 250-650 students. The primary function of this position is to direct and oversee the operations of the residence hall(s) including: staffing and supervision of 1-2 Assistant Residence Life Coordinators (Graduate Assistants) and 6-13 Resident Assistants; student development; training; advising student groups; administrative and managerial responsibilities; facilities management; and professional development. The RLC assesses, contributes to, and oversees the implementation and enhancement of student learning outside of the classroom through a wide range of programmatic opportunities and serves as the primary leader within their communities for MAP-Works implementation, student conduct proceedings, and occupancy management. RLCs also serve on departmental and university committees.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Qualifications: Requires a Master's degree in student personnel or related area. Prefer experience working with on-campus residential living. The successful candidate will have skills in selecting, supervising, and training student staff; advising student groups; the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and to interact with a diverse staff; flexibility; excellent oral and written communication skills; familiarity with student housing operations; good time management skills and the ability to work with interruptions. The incumbent is required to live on premises and have the ability to respond to various resident situations and to attend evening and weekend meetings and activities.

Administration and Supervision- The Area Coordinator – Residential Programs is the primary administrator in an area which houses 250 first year, returning and law/grad student.
Coordinator of Residential Programs-Coordinate Residential Life marketing, including the editing and revisions of publications and website (Ektron). In collaboration with the administrative Assistant, coordinate the housing selection process. Coordinate department online evaluations and quality of life survey. Assist in the maintenance of the Residential Life central office and perform customer service in the office (greeting students, answer billing and contract questions, talking with parents, counseling and referring students). Projects as assigned within the Office of Residential Life.
Student Development- The Area Coordinator guides and directs residence staff and student groups to provide a variety of programs through a student development model that focuses on educational, social, multicultural, and personal development.
Professional Development and Training- The Area Coordinator will have the opportunity to attend professional conferences, in-service training, and campus and community workshops to facilitate their growth in the field of Student Affairs. Each Area Coordinator will have adequate professional development funds to cover attendance at the UMR-ACUHO Regional Conference, or a comparable professional conference.
We seek a committed, energetic, detail oriented, and organized individual who is highly motivated to work in a residential community with first year students; who exhibits an understanding of a multicultural community; who enjoys the cross-campus collaborative experience of a small college environment, and who has a desire to work hard and learn valued skills, which will contribute to an intended career in Residential Life or Student Affairs Administration.
Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, or related field preferred; and 3 to 5 years full time post BA experience required; live-in experience strongly preferred. Experience with online survey tools such as SurveyMonkey, data management software experience, assessment, and web development (Ektron). Strong candidates will possess strong administrative skills, diversity education and a sincere commitment to making a difference in the lives of students and the campus community.
